The UGC-Academic Staff College of the University of Pune will coordinate the skill development training mainly in soft skills,English communication and computer to varsity non-teaching staff this month-end.
The university had invited applications for the skill development programme and has shortlisted about 70 applications. An official at the ASC said this was the third year they were conducting the programme. The response has been good so far. The programme will be done in three phases the first two phases of six days each and the third will be an advanced programme for two days.
Training will also be provided in conversational English,computer skills and laboratory safety. The programme will be applicable to the university staff as well as those in the affiliated colleges. The response at the university had been good. But now,even the college principals affiliated to the UoP are showing a lot of interest. However,the university has not yet made it compulsory for anyone, the official said.
The ASC will start the new batch in the last week of July and the programme will be conducted in batches of 25. WN Gade,director,Board of College and University Development said,There is a constant need for the teaching as well as non-teaching staff to keep upgrading their skills. There have been training programmes in the past for managerial skills as well. Most of the professional organisations have this feature; it is important that we have similar features.
