A case has been registered against the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) and four others under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, police said Sunday.
On February 20, two Kashmiri students studying at a college in Yavatmal city were allegedly assaulted by a group of youths. The victims were both studying physical education at Dahyabhai Patel Sharirik Shikshan Mahavidyalaya.
"The Act may be student-centric, but if there are no student representatives on elected bodies to put forward the demands of students, then what is the point,” asked Ram Satpute, state president of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
While the university officials refuse to divulge exact details about her complaint, sources said that the complaint initially pertained to mental harassment, which the student had complained at the department level.
