Four men, said to be the brains behind the attack on INLD legislator Bharat Singh in Najafgarh last Saturday, have been arrested. The MLA is still in hospital with bullet injuries.

Police said among the four arrested is Udaiveer who nursed a grudge against Bharat Singh’s brother Kishen Pehalwan ever since the 2002 killing of his father and brother.

Udaiveer,Ravinder and Satish Kumar were arrested by the special cell on Monday evening from Kishangarh near Vasant Kunj while a fourth,Naveen, was arrested by the south west district police.

Police said pistols and cartridges have been recovered from Udaiveer,Ravinder and Satish. It is learnt that police reached the four after questioning Vikas Dagar alias Vicky,Sumeet Singh,Kuldeep Mittal and Virender Sehrawat who were arrested from Kishangarh on Sunday.

Sources in the special cell said Udaiveer’s father Surajmal and brother Sukhbir were shot dead in Sonepat in 2002. At that time, they were engaged in a turf war with Kishen Pehalwan. Following the killing,Pehalwan’s men were held. Udaiveer also lost his share of property in Dichaon village where his father used to be pradhan, the sources said.

In June 2011,Udaiveer came in contact with Vicky who, during a public spat, had slapped Bharat Singh. The sources claimed that Udaiveer arranged a Scorpio for Vicky,Kuldeep,Sumeet and Virender and this vehicle was used for a recce ahead of the attack. He also arranged ammunition and finances, the sources said.

It is alleged that when these four men were carrying out the attack on Bharat Singh,Udaiveer and his three friends also reached the spot and opened fire. They then dispersed in different directions.
