Theatre gets a retro makeover as Mahim Junction takes the stage on July 5.

Theatre gets a retro makeover as Mahim Junction takes the stage on July 5. A throwback to the 1970s cinema, the play comprises all the chutzpah of a Bollywood entertainer — undying love, the evil gangster, the cop,the beautiful heroine, the knight in shining armour and the disappointed NRI. And all is entwined with a medley of foot-tapping numbers.

Scriptwriter and director Sohaila Kapur,of the Hungry Heart Productions, says “The story is set on a local train platform in suburban Mumbai, with an adjoining slum. In the slum lives the local don Rahim, who is in love with Radha,a girl from a different faith. Into the scene, enters the lovable drunkard Johnny who loves Ayesha,a prostitute with a heart of gold.” The play, which won good reviews last season,Mahim Junction is now packed with better songs,a tighter script and a new cast.

The play will be held at IHC. Time: 7.30 pm.
