: A jeep with a sophisticated .32 bore pistol and four live cartridges was reported stolen from outside the busy Vikas Bhawan in Sector 62 here during broad daylight,the police said here today. The jeep owner had parked the vehicle on the roadside,where several other vehicles were also parked,and on returning back after around 30 minutes,he was shocked to find the vehicle with his licensed arm and ammunition,which he had left inside the parked jeep,missing.Mandeep Singh,sarpanch of Bhaini Bagha village in Mansa,had come with a suspended panchayat secretary Harbans Singh to meet Director,Rural Development and Panchayats,in his office when the theft took place,the Investigating Officer (IO) Raghuwinder Singh said.With no trace of the stolen jeep,arm and ammunition,as yet,the police have registered a case of theft in this connection.

Truck rams stationary truck,cleaner killed

: A truck cleaner Krishan Pal,in his early 40s of Rajpura in Patiala,was killed on the spot while the driver had a narrow escape when a speeding truck rammed into a parked truck on Mohali-Landran-Banur Road near Raipur village in Mohali on Tuesday wee hours,the police said.The ill-fated truck driver Jagpal Singh told the police that he,along with cleaner Krishan Pal,was coming from Banur side and since a truck was parked on the road without any indicator or other signal,he failed to notice the parked truck and rammed into it. The impact was so strong that the body of truck cleaner was badly stuck in the mangled remains of the truck and it took several hours to retrieve it after cutting down the truck body,the IO Paramjit Singh said. The absconding driver of wrongly parked truck Mehar Singh of Yamunanagar was booked for wrong parking and causing death.

Two arrested for vehicle thefts

: The police today arrested two youths and recovered five stolen two-wheelers from their possession. The two Harjinder Singh alias Harry,a resident of Ludhiana and Gurjot Singh alias Ginny,a resident of Sector 47,were arrested from near scrap market in Burail on secret information. The police had information that two youth were trying to sell stolen motorcycles in the market and laid a trap. The police had recovered three stolen motorcycles and two scooters from the accused. Besides,fake registration certificates of motorcycles were also recovered from their possession. The police said Harry had been working as a cook and a driver with a brigadier in Sector 33 while Ginny is unemployed. They told the police that they were stealing vehicles to maintain a lavish lifestyle and for adventure. The accused would be produced in a local court tomorrow for a police remand as a lot of incidents of snatching were committed in the city on Activa scooter.
