Honorary UK degree for NID director
Ahmedabad: National Institute of Design (NID) director Prof Pradyumna Vyas will be conferred with an honorary degree by the University for Creative Arts (UCA) of the United Kingdom in recognition of his contribution to design promotion and higher education.
UCA is one of the biggest universities in the UK for creative arts,and Prof Vyas will represent India,the NID spokesperson said.
Vyas will be conferred the degree at UCA Farnham’s graduation ceremony on June 29 at Guildford Cathedral in the UK.
Pro Vice-Chancellor of UCA Paul Coyle,in a message to NID,said,“We are delighted to award him with an honorary degree and I am sure he will be an inspiration to our graduating students.”
Vyas said,“I feel honoured to be recognised by the University for Creative Arts at a time when India is set to celebrate 50 years of formal design education at NID.”
He added,“This is a great encouragement to take forward collaborative research,bringing global perspective in design for inclusive and sustainable growth.”

Girl dies after school wall collapses in Vadodara district
Vadodara: A 10-year-old girl,Sapna Vasava,on Saturday succumbed to her injuries that she had sustained when a wall of the primary school she studied in collapsed at Magardev village on Friday,family members said. Her father,Ramesh Vasava,and school teacher,Rajesh Vasava,took her to the government hospital at Rajpipla for treatment from where she was shifted to a hospital in Vadodara where she succumbed to the injuries.

Man released on parole killed
Vadodara: Gurudev Sinh,a life-term convict released on parole,was murdered in the city late Friday night,police said on Saturday. Gurudev was awarded life imprisonment on charges of killing two sons of his brother-in-law,Ramsinh,over three years ago. Parole of the deceased was to expire on Saturday.

Rajkot BJP councilor drowns in sea
Rajkot: BJP councillor in Rajkot Municipal Corporation Amit Bhoraniya drowned in the sea near Diu on Friday evening. Bhoraniya along with three friends had gone to Diu on a business trip,sources said,adding the four were bathing in the sea when Bhoraniya drowned. Bhoraniya was BJP corporator from Ward number 11. His body was brought to Rajkot Civil Hospital,said sources.
