KOLKATA: A private hospitals alleged refusal to treat some people injured in a road accident that left six dead in 24 South Parganas district on Tuesday enraged locals,who ransacked the nursing home. The police used batons and fired in the air to quell the mob. The injured were rushed to the nearby Peerless Hospital. The locals alleged that the nursing home turned down their plea to offer emergency first-aid to the injured and demanded money in advance.

1 held for Nitishs security breach

PATNA: There was a breach in Chief Minister Nitish Kumars security when a physically challenged man who wanted an appointment with him managed to tear away the flag from his official car minutes before the CM was to get into it after a Cabinet meeting at the Old Secretariat here. The incident took place around 5.10 pm. The man in his late 20s was detained and identified as Sheikh Abdul,a resident of Motihari in East Champaran.

Kaczynski: Krishna may attend funeral

NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S M Krishna is likely to attend the funeral of Polish President Lech Kaczynski which will be held in Warsaw this Sunday. Krishna is likely to represent India at the funeral and memorial service for the late president and his wife Maria,who died in an aircraft crash in Russia on Saturday.

Foetus found near Mahim church

MUMBAI: A foetus was found in the wee hours on Tuesday near a church at Mahim in central Mumbai,the police said,adding that a complaint had been registered against an unidentified person. Locals informed the police about the foetus on L J Road at 1.30 am following which it was rushed to a nearby hospital. They claimed that a person threw the foetus from inside a car and sped away. The police are awaiting the footage of CCTVs installed at Mahim junction.

Report: Kerala IG tour violated rules

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Keralas Intelligence chief on Tuesday reported to the state government that IG Tomin J Thachankary had gone on the Gulf tour violating service rules and without obtaining mandatory permission. The report by ADGP Intelligence Siby Mathews said Thachankary had informed his immediate superior over phone that he was leaving for Sikkim. While he was away,he had told others he had been touring Kashmir.

Satish Sharma graft cases: CBI unsure of status

NEW DELHI: The CBI seems unsure about the status of 15 cases of corruption and criminal conspiracy registered against former minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Captain Satish Sharma. An RTI reply from the agency on January 13,said Sharma was discharged after the CBI filed closure reports in all 15 cases against him. But a second RTI response on April 6,2010 says the 15 cases are still 8220;under further investigation8221;.

Parrikar to head BJP good governance cell

NEW DELHI: Former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar will be made chief of good governance cell of the BJP. While the party has not yet announced the names of its various cells and morchas,it is likely to showcase its soon-to-be-created good governance cell.
