Yes, the wedding season has begun and this year it was kicked-off in style 8212; with the Nihal Garware Jaideep Garware8217;s younger brother-Nikita Shah marriage. Unlike other society weddings, this was a high-profile affair that was kept small and tasteful. There was a dinner at Breach Candy, a mehendi and then the wedding and reception. All held, where else but at the Turf Club. It was an early affair with all Mumbai8217;s beautiful people 8212; dressed to the tee. But the woman who stole the spotlight was sister-in-law Ramona Garware, dressed in a maroon Tarun Tahiliani outfit. But this soiree did not go on too long as people were in a hurry to get to Maureen Wadia8217;s annual Gladrags do. And the main topic of conversation that night was: quot;I wonder what Maureen will do this year?quot; Read I wonder what she will be wearing this time. She was dressed in her usual unsuitable, unflattering manner which was compounded by the fact that she has put on a bit of weight.

Designers do

At a press meet, at The Oberoi, to annouce this year8217;s Smirnoff Fashion Award finalists, designers Anna Singh, Rocky S and Pawan Aswani explained how they made their decision. The other judge Arjun Khanna was in Delhi so he couldn8217;t make it to the press conference. But ultimately, they just chain-smoked more than they talked. Anyway, what we figured out was that the winner will be chosen at a fashion show held at The Oberoi and will participate at the International Festival in Berlin. Anna wished she could participate in such an event. She added that young designers are lucky to have got this chance. Hey, what in the world gave her the idea that her filmi designs would get selected?

Shahab8217;s show

THIS weekend8217;s major social event was Shahab Durazi8217;s show and everybody who8217;s somebody was out there. The clothes in true Durazi style were elegant and classy and as always his choice of fabrics was just fabulous. But most of the designs were predictable and the range of clothes for men wasn8217;t too large. But it seems that more people than expected turned up, as at least a 100 people had to stand. There was just not enough seating and some people were turned away. Among those who had to stand were Nirja Shah, Wendell Rodericks and Preeti Vyas-Gyanetti. It seems that Shahab does not consider them important enough to have reserved seats. Among those on the VIP list were Yash and Avanti Birla, Ramona Garware, Shobha and Dilip De and Simi Garewal.

The show was directed by the guru of the catwalk, Hemant Trivedi, and all the top models were there. There is no doubt that the prettiest girl on the ramp today is Malaika Arora but it looks like her derriere has put on a few pounds and her walk or rather wiggle could use some work.

Love birds

After the show was over, a few people drifted towards The Ghetto. Among the early birds at the nightclub were Achla Sachdev, Andrew Carnegie, Shikha Swaroop and her date. Both girls were wearing so much make-up that it was obvious that they were coming straight off the ramp. Chain-smoking, Shikha was putting away beers like it was going of style 8212; not a good idea, particularly since she seems to have put on a few pounds around her mid-riff. She was also all over her date, a very Delhi-looking man with a moustache. Achla and Andrew were also very lovey-dovey. It seems that cupid has really struck Mr Carnegie8217;s heart. Achla8217;s piled-up hair identical to Shikha8217;s looked hideous but he thought that she looked perfect.

And finally8230;The Oberoi has begun a buffet at the Casa Mexicana that is really a Value For Money deal. For Rs 200 plus taxes you can eat as much as you want from the salad, taco and dessert buffet. And the range is fantastic. There is avocado salad, spicy salsas and very tempting chocolate cake. One woman who knows how to take advantage of this offer is Suneeta Rao. Casa Mexicana is her favourite restaurant. So much so, that she insisted on being shot there for Star TV8217;s Good Food Guide. A shoot that took a lot of preparation 8212; she had all her make-up artists touching her up throughout the shoot. Does Ms Rao need that much help with her looks?
