Some offices, including Information Cell, will remain in old building due to convenient location
The state8217;s lone technical university, the Punjab Technical University PTU, would finally have a permanent office of its own after being run from rented or make-shift offices for the past about 12 years, since its inception in 1997. All the main offices, including the Vice-Chancellor8217;s and the Registrar8217;s, have been shifted to the new building already, while some, accounts and distant learning included, are still operating from the old office in the building of Government Education College on Ladowali road.
The Punjab Government had given land to the PTU on the Jalandhar-Kapurthala road almost 9 years ago and the university was to construct its building by 2007. Though a major portion of the building had been completed in the deadline, the office could not be shifted. In 1997, PTU started functioning in the rented accommodation at the Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology NIT and remained there for 3 years before being shifted to the education college.
PTU Registrar Sarojini Gautam Sharda said some offices, including the Information Cell, will remain in the old building for the convenience of the people, as the present building is located in the heart of the city.
She said the university will also start research programmes once the shifting process is complete as the earlier constraint of space will no longer be there.
