While admitting that raids did take place in CPIM zonal office, the Election Commission team8217;s report denied the allegation that Central paramilitary forces or the EC observers were behind the raids. The two-member EC inquiry team, comprising Deputy Election Commissioners R Balakrishnan and Anand Kumar, on Friday submitted their report after touring the area. The Commision sent the Central team after CPIM alleged that raids were conducted in Jamshed Bhawan, the party8217;s zonal office in Keshpur, on the orders of the Observer.

SC hears PIL for countermanding polls

NEW DELHI: Charges of rigging of elections by the ruling CPIM in West Bengal echoed in the Supreme Court on Friday with a petition being filed seeking countermanding of the state Assembly polls scheduled to start on April 17. The petition sought postponment of the elections alleging widespread irregulatities in the 2004 polls at the behest of the CPIM. It also sought a direction to the Union Home Ministry to publish the reports of all election observers besides the controversial report of state Chief Electoral Officer Afzal Amanullah Amanullah about 8220;serious irregularities8221; during 2004 Lok Sabha polls.
