CHENNAI, OCT 19: India’s Narain Karthikeyan ended the 1999 Autosport British Formula 3 Championship on a disastrous note as he crashed out of the concluding round of the series at Thruxton following a collision with Matt Davies.
Narain thus finished sixth overall in the championship.
According to information reaching here on Tuesday, Brazil’s Luciano Burti won the event, but it did not fetch him the championship which went to Britain’s Marc Hynes who finished fifth.
Narain for Stewart Racing: Meanwhile, it was learnt that Narain, in all probability, will drive for the Stewart Racing team at the Macau Grand Prix and the Korean F3 race later this year.
The move from his current team, Carlin Motorsport, to Stewart Racing, which is managed by former World F1 champion Jackie Stewart and his son Paul, follows sponsorship by Ford India.
Narain had discussions with the Stewarts recently and the outcome of the meeting has fuelled speculation that the 24-year old from Coimbatore would drive for StewartRacing next season.
Incidentally, Jackie Stewart runs a Formula 1 team whose drivers, Johnny Herbert and Rubens Barichello, finished second and third at the Petronas Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang, on Sunday.
