
Following in line of the rate cuts by the private operators and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited today announced almost 60 per cent reduction in its cell-to-cell STD rates as well as in other rates.
Cell-to-cell STD rates have been slashed to Rs 1.90 from the existing Rs 2.90 per minute. In the post-paid services category, for Mumbai, MTNL has reduces cell-to-cell charges on Dolphin by 0.20 paise to Rs 1.60 from the earlier Rs 1.80.
Call charges from cell to cell will be 0.40 paise per minute in case of Plan C, where the monthly rental has been reduces by hundred rupees to Rs 550. As per Plan D, the rentals have comedown by Rs 200 to Rs 1,000. But the biggest surprise perhaps is the reduction in the SMS charges to 0.80 paise from Re 1.
Announcing the new tariffs, CMD Narendra Sharma said that the fixed to cell pulse rate will be at 60 seconds and the fixed to WiLL phones will be at 90 seconds.
In case of a plan with a monthly rental of Rs 250, local call on cell phone will cost Rs 1.60 while on fixed and WLL phone it will cost Rs 1.90 a minute. STD charges on fixed line and wireless in local loop(WLL) phone will depend upon the distance. For distance up to 200 km, STD call will cost Rs 1.90 in the lowest monthly rental plan. For distance between 200-500 kms, the STD call would cost Rs 2.90 and Rs 3.90 for distance beyond 500 kms.
