8226; In swimming, the Indian gold count reached 25, leaving only four for the other participating nations. Rehan Poncha won the men8217;s 200m individual medley gold with a new meet mark of 2:11.22 seconds, and Fariha Zaman re-wrote a record in women8217;s 200m backstroke with a timing of 2:31.49 seconds.
Arjun Muralidharan swam to glory in men8217;s 200m butterfly clocking 2:05.06 seconds to better the previous Games reord. Mandar Divase won the title in the men8217;s 1500m freestyle, Kishipra Mahajan bagged the top honours in women8217;s 400m freestyle, Vir Dhaval Khade came first in men8217;s 100m freestyle before the Indian quartet of Neeraja Balakrishna, Surabhi Tipri, Kishipra Mahajan and Puja Alva brought the curtains down on the day by ensuring a top podium finish in womens8217; 4X800m freestyle.
Table tennis glory
8226; In table tennis, it was an all-India affair in the three title matches in doubles, as the country8217;s tally from the event swelled to five gold and three silvers. Commonwealth Games champion Achanta Sharath Kamal, pairing with Poulomi Ghatak, conquered compatriot Soumyadeep Roy and Mouma Das 11-3, 12-14, 11-7, 11-6 to win the yellow metal in mixed doubles. The women8217;s doubles honours went to Ghatak and Das, who outclassed Kasturi Chakraborty and Nandita Saha 11-5, 11-13, 11-7, 11-8. Sharath Kamal then combined with Roy to beat Subhajit Saha and Pathik Mehta 11-7, 11-5, 4-11, 11-8 in the men8217;s doubles final.
Badminton teams win
8226; In badminton, the Indian competitors clinched the team championships for both men and women with identical 3-0 verdicts against Sri Lanka.
Shooting gold for men
8226; Junior world championship gold medallist Navnath Fartade lived up to his reputation to bag the gold in men8217;s 10m Air rifle event. Navnath scored 591 in the prelims and 104.1 in the final for an aggregrate of 695.1 to win the gold. Fartade and Ragunath then teamed up with Fulchand Bangar to help India clinch the team gold with a score of 1765.
India were, however, upstaged in the women8217;s 50m Rifle prone, where the host nation8217;s Nilmini Illangarathna picked up gold.
Two golds in boxing
8226; Akhil Kumar and Vijender Kumar added two gold medals to the Indian kitty in the boxing competition. In an electrifying atmosphere, Akhil Kumar pipped Abid Ali Baloch of Pakistan 26:25 in the 54kg bantamweight category. Vijender prevailed over Pakistan8217;s Allah Baksh 34-19 to win the gold medal in the 75 kg category. Sanjay Kishan Kolte, Anthresh Lalit Lakra 57 kg, Jai Bhagwan 60 kg and Dinesh Kumar 81 kg won silver.
