Vinod Kambli, Ajit Agarkar asked to prove fitness

MUMBAI: The Cricket Board BCCI will insist on fitness certificates from Vinod Kambli and Ajit Agarkar before considering them while pruning the 30-member World Cup probables list to 19.

Announcing this here today, BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele said that it was imperative for the two players to produce medical proof that they were fully fit before the selectors meet to prune down the list in time to meet the February 28 deadline.

Lele said the selectors will meet on February 27 at a venue yet to be decided and and not on February 19 at Calcutta as was announced by BCCI executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar.

MUMBAI: Srinivas Venkataraghvan of India has been nominated on the World Cup panel of umpires, it was announced here. The Seventh World Cup will be held in England from the middle of May, it was announced here.

India at Fed Cup

NEW DELHI: Indian women tennis players are undergoing rigorous practicesessions here in preparation for crucial Asia-Oceania Fed Cup qualifying tournament in Thailand from February 22 to 27. The Indian team have reached the Zone-I qualifiers for the first time.

Top Indian Nirupama Vaidyanathan, National champion Uzma Khan, Sai Jailakshmi and Shruti Dhawan comprise the team with big-serving Manisha Malhotra as reserve. Former Davis cupper and AITA selection committee chairman Shyam Minotra will travel with the team as non-playing captain-cum coach.
