MUMBAI, FEB 11: Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane today defended the State8217;s financial position saying that its revenue earnings were growing as compared to the growth of revenue deficit.

Reacting to the Reserve Bank report that Maharashtra8217;s revenue deficit had increased by 700 per cent and the economic situation was bad as compared to states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the CM said in a statement the State8217;s revenue deficit had registered a growth of Rs 4,621 crore as compared to Rs 669 crore last year. But he felt, instead of comparing the increase in deficit to that of last year, the figure should be tallied with the overall size of the budget.

Last year, the revenue earnings were Rs 21,721 crore while this year it is expected to increase to Rs 23,819 crore, he informed.
