Honorary Ph.D for Kalam

This is the first time that DIAT,a deemed university has been offering an honourary PhD to any personality and Patnaik further added,“This has been in discussion stage for about two- three months now. The idea was initiated by the chairman of the Governing Council of this institute. A number of universities in the world offer PhDs and honourary degrees to various personalities from varied fields such as sports,literature,music and so on. On similar lines,when we thought of coming up with such a PhD,the name that came up was that of Dr Kalam. We are a defence establishment and this degree has be conferred upon him for his outstanding contribution to the field of Defence Technology.” The degree would also be formally approved an ratified by the academic council Patnaik said.

The event would be followed by Kalam addressing the students attending the function. He would also be presented medals to the best graduates of the present batch of DIAT. “This is the first time,but one cannot assure whether it would be an ongoing process,” he said.
