The UK Film Council is all set to launch the film festival From Blighty With Love in the city, beginning February/i>
Fresh popcorn,a cool drink, theatre and a roller coaster of emotions, mystery, comedy and romance, movies are, after all,the epitome of fun in life. Pune has long been known as the destination for movie buffs. So,whether it is the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) or the Pune International Film Festival (PIFF),Pune not only showcases good movies,it makes good ones too. Adding a new feather to its cap is the recent announcement by the UK Film Council, which is going to promote British films in India through a series of screenings, beginning early next year. Titled From Blighty,With Love, this film festival will be on simultaneously between February 26 and March 11,in Mumbai,Pune and Bangalore. The movie screenings will be followed by a virtual in-conversation event with key talent from each film, via the Skype technology.
Being held in collaboration with UK Trade and Investment, the Mumbai Film Festival,Book My Show,Reliance Media Works,Big Cinemas and Fame Cinemas,Sarah explains the choice of the peculiar title From Blighty,With Love. Well,Blighty is an English term for Britain, deriving from the Hindustani word vilayati. Since this fest is exclusively for India,we thought of giving it an Indian touch; hence the name. Looks like Puneites are in for a major movie treat and that too,the vilayati way!
