Hollywood star John Travolta keeps his Mumbai date, but is non-committal on Saturday Night Fever jig

John Travolta trooped in early on Sunday morning and was pleasantly surprised with the “warm welcome” that awaited him at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport . “About 50 journalists and cameramen welcomed me to your country. It felt great,” he says. Even though it took just a few minutes to whisk him,his daughter,Ella, two sisters and their 16-member entourage to the waiting cars,he managed to make a few quick observations about the city’s airport. “Quite a lot of activities were going around in there with flights taking off one after the other. It looked quite hectic,” said the 56-year-old.

In Mumbai for a two-day whirlwind tour to launch a new collection of an international watch brand,Travolta met a few Bollywood denizens at a magazine style awards event where he presented an award to Aamir Khan. He is aware of Khan, having watched Lagaan sometime back. Otherwise, the Hollywood actor’s exposure to Bollywood is limited to Slumdog Millionaire and Bride and Prejudice. He’s optimistic though about a possible Bolly-Holly synergy. Interestingly,he feels,Hollywood studios need Bollywood talents more than Indians need them. “Your industry is financially independent and you guys have a great pool of talent. Your amazing filmmakers can really contribute to the world. In that sense, our studios need you guys more,” he said.

Replayy,he was non-committal. “Well,I’ve heard of something like this. But I haven’t committed to anything,” said the Pulp Fiction star.

While Travolta was busy “advertising” his watch brand at the event, his family went around exploring the city. “My daughter has a list of 10 places she wants to see in Mumbai. She’s only been to the Mani Bhavan,” he said. His wife Kelly Preston could not travel with the family as she is expecting the couple’s third child.
