The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday lodged an FIR in connection with the mysterious death of former deputy CMO Dr YS Sachan in Lucknow jail on June 22.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday lodged an FIR in connection with the mysterious death of former deputy CMO Dr YS Sachan in Lucknow jail on June 22. The case was lodged under sections 302 (murder) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.

CBI Joint Director Javeed Ahmed said the FIR was lodged on a complaint from Malti Sachan, the wife of Dr Sachan. The CBI had received the complaint two days after Sachan’s death.

On Thursday, the Allahabad High Court had entrusted the investigation with CBI and asked it to submit a report within three months.

Ahmed said a six-member team, headed by an SP-rank officer, has been formed to probe the case. The Lucknow police has been requested to provide all material related to the case.

Sachan was arrested in April for irregularities in the Family Welfare Department that surfaced during investigation into the murder of murder of former CMO Dr B P Singh, who was gunned down by some bikers when he was taking a morning walk near his residence in Gomtinagar on April 2.

On June 17,the police said that Sachan was behind Singh’s murder. The police also claimed Sachan was linked to the murder of Singh’s predecessor Dr Vinod Arya, who was killed in a similar manner near his residence in Vikas Nagar on October 27 last year.

Sachan was found dead in Lucknow jail on June 22. While the government claimed he committed suicide, his family alleged that he had been killed to protect some influential men who had framed him in the case. A judicial inquiry had found Sachan’s death was “homicide”.
