Aasmaan mein jitne taare, pedh lagao utne saare was one of the many slogans raised by students to create awareness at the Science March from India Gate to National Science Centre on Saturday.
Organised by the National Science Centre on the occasion of the National Science Day held in honour of Nobel laureate Sir C V Raman, who discovered what has come to be known as the Raman effect in light the march saw the participation of over 400 students from various schools in Delhi.
The celebrations are organised on February 28 every year by the centre to inculcate the spirit of scientific enquiry among students.
The celebrations included a science quiz,a slogan writing contest, and a lecture on popular science by Shiva Prasad Khened, the centre director. Science is dynamic and not static,so everybody must ask questions about everything around them. Never agree to anything one says without understanding the logic behind it, Khened said.
The students were quizzed on their scientific knowledge about space, research in India and general science. While most questions received prompt answers, several left the students stumped. It was an educative and enriching experience, and now I am even more fascinated by the world of science, which I definitely want to explore, Sonu,a Class IX student of Kendriya Vidyalaya,Dwarka Sector-5,said after the celebrations.
Twelve students were awarded prizes in the quiz contest, with four prizes being given for the slogan writing contest.
