2-year-old raped by neighbour

A 25-year-old man allegedly raped a two-year-old girl from his neighbourhood in the Najafgarh area of Southwest Delhi on Tuesday.

The police said the incident was reported from the New Roshan Pura area,where there was a powercut on Tuesday evening. The victim was crying when the accused,identified as Bunty,came to the house and told her mother Rani,who was cooking,that he was taking the child to his house to sing her a lullaby and calm her down.

He told Rani he would bring her back once she was asleep.

The mother agreed and Bunty took the girl home. After a long time,Rani got suspicious and went to Buntys house,where she found him raping her daughter, a senior police officer said. Rani raised an alarm and residents gathered at the spot. They beat up Bunty and informed the police.

The police said the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital,where her medical examination confirmed rape. The victims father works as a labourer and they live in a rented house. Bunty also works as a labourer and used to frequent their house. He has been arrested under charges of rape, a police officer said.
