Protests against PU fee hike continues

Following the series of protests against the Panjab university fee hike, students of Master in Computer Application (MCA) II along with the Indian National Student’s Organisation (INSO) on Tuesday agitated outside the vice chancellor’s office.

Following the series of protests against the Panjab university fee hike, students of Master in Computer Application (MCA) II along with the Indian National Student’s Organisation (INSO) today agitated outside the vice chancellor’s office, against the recent increase in fees of the MCA II at the Department of Computer Science in PU.

Reacting strongly to the hike in fees,Anil Ganghas,INSO campus president demanded its immediate withdrawal. “It is to be noted that earlier the annual fee for MCA II was Rs 65,000 and it was increased by Rs 6,000 this year increasing it to Rs 71,000. The university administration does not care for students, especially ones from poor families,” said Ganghas.

Dean Science Faculty Prof AK Ahulwalia and Chairperson of Computer Science Dr Indu Chhabra reached the spot where the students handed over a memorandum containing their objections against the fee hike and other students’ problems. Ganghas accused the university authorities of ‘giving false justifications for the fee hike’.The price of the prospectus and the examination fee was initially increased and now the fee structure of MCA II has been hiked,in the future some other fee will be raised,he added. Rohit Saini, secretary INSO and student of MCA II said that it is a shame that we have an authority which is totally callous in its attitude towards the students.

Prof AK Ahulwalia and Dr. Indu Chhabra assured the students that appropriate action will be taken on the matter within two days after a meeting is held with university officials. Anil Ghanghas, however, said if the fee is not reduced in the next two days the students will take to the streets again.
