Bank security van robbed at gunpoint

In a daring daylight robbery,two unidentified men robbed a security van and absconded with Rs 12 lakh on Wednesday.

In a daring daylight robbery,two unidentified men robbed a security van and absconded with Rs 12 lakh on Wednesday. The incident took place near Sector 5 in Panchkula around noon,when security officials of ‘Checkmate Securities’ were on their way to deposit savings to the Panchkula Sector 10 branch of State Bank of India.

Police were informed of the incident by regional manager of Checkmate securities,(retd) Brig. Sarabjeet Singh

“Two unidentified men,in a Ford Fiesta,blocked the way of the Maruti Van being driven by Jaswant Singh accompanied by security guard,Sanjay. The van of the security agency had earnings of four malls and was to deposit the money in a bank,” said a police official.

When the driver of the van got down to enquire,the two miscreants threatened him with a pistol and asked the security guard to hand over the money.

The employees did not have self-defence weapons and failed to note the number plate of the car

The van was carrying money collected from Paras Down-Town Mall,Zirakpur,PP Jewelers and MORE in Sector 14,Panchkula. The two had made their final collection from Vishal Mega Mart.

“We have registered a case and are on the lookoutfor the accused” said the police official.

Two more bank robberies

CHANDIGARH: An unidentified man cheated an HDFC bank cashier of Rs 7.92 lakh in Manimajra on Wednesday. As per police,Narinder Arora,the businessman whose cash was stolen,had come to deposit money and on his way out was chatted up by the unidentified man. After Narinder left the bank premises,the unknown man came up to the cashier and asked her to return the cash saying that Narinder had not filled the deposit slip correctly. Mistaking him as Narinder’s friend,the cashier gave him the money. A case has been registered and police have acquired the CCTV footage.

In the second case,two unknown girls stole Rs 80,000 in cash from Indu Anand’s bag,who had come to Punjab National Bank in Sector 19 to make a deposit. Indu alleged that the cash was stolen while she was standing in deposit queue. Police officials said the victim had taken out the cash from her bag to check the exact amount and later realized that her purse’s zip was open and the cash was missing.
