It's hard to categorise this black-and-white piece of beauty, but film critics and audience have boxed it as a rom-com, which I don't think it is. Sure it has its share of comic elements, but Roman Holiday doesn't have a predictable ending, which defeats the entire purpose of a romantic comedy.

Not only are the performances convincing, what really makes Can You Ever Forgive Me stand out in the crowd is the fact that despite being a 'serious' film, it never takes itself too seriously, therefore helping the audience to weep and laugh with the heroine and her people.

The film did raise some pertinent points about sexual abuse and child sexual abuse in particular. But it was too in-your-face preachy about the whole affair. That said, Udne Do, from a cinematic point of view, is an average film, but as a PSA, it works effectively.
