‘Gen Z is having unsafe sex’: Honey Singh apologises for distasteful remarks at Delhi concert, says gave ‘message after meeting gynaecologists’
Referring to the remarks he made at the Delhi concert, Honey Singh said he chose to speak in that manner because he believed it was a language Gen Z audiences would understand better.
Honey Singh recently issued an apology for the controversial remarks he made during a concert in Delhi.
Honey Singh has once again found himself at the centre of controversy following remarks he made at singers Nanku and Karun’s concert in Delhi earlier this week. A clip from the event, in which he is heard speaking about “having sex in a car” during Delhi’s peak winter, quickly went viral on social media and drew widespread backlash for its crude language. Following the criticism, Honey Singh took to Instagram on Thursday evening to issue a public apology. In a video shared on his account, the rapper explained the context behind his remarks and said his intention was misunderstood.
He said, “Before going to this show, I had lunch with a few gynaecologists and sexologists, who told me that the current generation is battling sexually transmitted diseases because of unsafe sex. When I went to the show and saw the Gen Z audience, I thought I would give them a message in their language, to not have unprotected sex and to use condoms. I felt I should speak in a way they would understand better, the kind of language that is commonly used in OTT content and films these days, which Gen Z watches a lot.”
Acknowledging the criticism, Honey Singh added that many people were offended by his choice of words. “A lot of people were hurt by the language I used. I sincerely apologise to everyone who was offended. I never intended to hurt anyone. Humans make mistakes. I will try not to repeat it. In the future, I will be more careful about how I say things, who I am speaking to, and how my words can be edited or presented differently from what I intended. I apologise to all of you. This is your Yo Yo Honey Singh, keep loving me.”

For those unfamiliar, the controversy stemmed from a comment Honey Singh made during the Delhi concert, where he was heard saying, “It’s so cold in Delhi. It’s fun to have sex in a car in this weather. So have sex in the car in Delhi’s cold, but use condoms, guys. Please play safe.” Previously, Honey Singh has been open about his struggles with substance abuse and recovery. Last year, he revealed that drug use had severely impacted his health and that it took nearly eight years for his body to fully recover.
Speaking to NDTV, he had said, “Drugs damage you so slowly that you don’t even realise it. I quit drugs in 2014 when I fell sick, but even then it took eight years for them to leave my system completely. I don’t want anything like this to happen to anyone, not even my enemies.”
