Every football World Cup leaves behind an iconic image.
Zinedine Zidane trying to head out Italy from the final was the moment of Germany 2006. Before the first ball has been kicked,South Africa has got history on its side. The last edition saw four African debutants and this one will be about the first Cup on the continents soil.
While the home team will try desperately to keep the trophy, there are a few match-ups to look out for in the group stages. Club team-mates from LA Galaxy and Chelsea David Beckham England and Landon Donovan USA,Michael Essian Ghana and Michael Ballack Germany will try to outwit each other.

Then there is the group marked out for those who love artistry as much as raw power, with Brazils Kaka,Portugals Cristiano Ronaldo and Ivory Coasts Didier Drogba facing off. Argentina will try to ensure they make more news than their coach Diego Maradona, and France will hope to do better than their last-gasp,controversial qualification process.
