SC rejects Enos Ekkas bail plea

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of former Jharkhand minister Enos Ekka in connection with the disproportionate assets and money laundering cases lodged against him. A Bench comprising Justices Markandey Katju and R M Lodha dismissed Ekkas appeal against the order of the Jharkhand High Court which had disallowed his bail plea. We find no merits in the Special Leave Petitions SLPs. The SLPs are accordingly dismissed, the Bench said.

Kerala to seek LeT militants custody

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Police has decided to seek the custody of suspected LeT terrorist T Nazeer,who is being brought from Meghalaya to Bangalore for questioning in connection with the 2005 IISc attack there. Nazeer,who was handed over to the BSF by Bangladesh Rifles on Wednesday,is wanted for many crimes in Kerala and should be brought here for interrogation as early as possible,said DGP Jacob Punnoose.

HC seeks personal affidavit from Amar

ALLAHABAD: The Allahabad High Court on Friday directed SP general secretary Amar Singh to file a personal affidavit on Saturday in connection with a petition filed by him challenging the FIR lodged in Kanpur charging him with financial fraud to the tune of Rs 500 crore. The order was passed by a Division Bench comprising Justice Yatindra Singh and Justice S K Tripathi following certain objections raised by the counsel of complainant Shivakant Tripathi.

Over 500 kg of explosives seized

PATNA: Over 500 kg of explosives were on Friday seized in Naxalite-affected Jammui district of Bihar. SP Rakesh Rathi said,acting on a tip off by the Special Task Force STF,the district police,STF and Central Reserve Police force CRPF raided the areas falling under Chakai police station and recovered over 500 kgs of explosives. The SP said at least 12 persons had been detained for interrogation.

Fire at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

MUMBAI: Fire broke out at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus here in the wee hours of Friday causing panic among commuters. The fire broke out at the commercial office in CSTs annexe building,a railway official said. The fire brigade was called immediately,the official said,adding the cause of the fire is not yet known. No casualties have been reported.

Denied repatriation thrice,Pak man dies

JAMMU: A Pakistani national died in a hospital here after repeated attempts to return to his country failed. Moosa Ahmed of Bhimber in PoK breathed his last on Thursday with his wish to see his loved ones unfulfilled. Pakistani authorities had rejected his repatriation request thrice during the last 23 years since his arrest in 1983.

Swiss woman tourist killed in accident

PURI: A Swiss woman tourist,Everyone Slavicek Bender 57,was killed and her husband and driver critically injured when their jeep collided head-on with a truck near Bira Harekrishnapur near police said on Friday. The couple was proceeding towards Bhubaneswar.

Tallest Buddha statue coming up at Sarnath

LUCKNOW:A private trust is setting up the tallest Buddha statue at the pilgrimage centre of Sarnath. The 90-feet-tall statue which is 80 per cent complete would be installed next year,Mrigday Van Mahavihara Society secretary Dharam Rashmi said here on Friday. The statue is estimated to cost Rs 1.5-2 crore.
