3 injured in wall collapse

  • The front portion of a hall being repaired caved in at Malad east on Thursday evening, injuring three labourers, two seriously.

    • The accident occurred at around 4 pm when the front portion of Parekh Hall on Jitendra Road was being repaired. A large portion of a slab came down crashing suddenly, injuring the labourers . The injured have been identified as B Shankar 28, Shankar 27 and Bhumanna 22. The cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained, said the police. A resident said the injured were rushed to the nearby Ashoka Nursing Home, but after being refused admission, were taken to Bhagwati Hospital. Sources said medical examinations were being conducted to confirm the nature of injuries, particularly of the head.

    Vendor knifed to death

  • A vendor was brutally stabbed to death in broad daylight at Dharavi today because he had asked the local hoodlum to pay up for sarbat8216; cold drink the latter had consumed.

    • According to the police,Mahendra Yadav 22 was stabbed with gupti8216; and daggers around 9 am in front of Amruta Medical Store on 90 ft Road at Dharavi by one Akram and his two associates. Yadav was walking along the road when the trio ambushed him and inflicted grievous injuries on his chest and abdomen, the police added.

    Insignia for 20 policemen

  • Around 20 police personnel were awarded an insignia by the Director General of Maharashtra police, Arvind Inamdar last week. The DG8217;s insignia was given to policemen irrespective of their rank in the department including some IPS officer. These cops even included some police constables.

    • Constable Dattatreya Lotankar was declared the most outstanding and was praised by Inamdar.

    Probe into CRB scam demanded

  • The Investors8217; Grievances Forum IGF has urged the Union government to constitute a joint parliamentary committee to probe the CRB scam. In a memorandum to Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, the IGF also demanded promulgation of an ordinanceto protect interests of small investors so that they got preference in settlement of claims.
