PERTH, FEB 4: The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) handling of the Shoaib Akhtar affair was a “joke”, Australian fast bowling legend Dennis Lillee said.

Writing in his weekly column for the West Australian newspaper, Lillee said the ICC should allow umpires to determine the legitimacy of bowlers’ actions rather than referring suspicions back to the council.

“It’s time to get back to basics by giving umpires full control of the situation,” Lillee wrote. “Cricketing authorities, like a rabbit caught in the headlights, are becoming dazzled by all this modern technology, including super-slow motion replays."
