
Govt school students awarded
New Delhi Municipal Council Secretary G.K. Marwah today felicitated 35 meritorious students who secured maximum marks in their respective subjects in the senior secondary final examination. The students of NP, co-education, Senior Secondary school, Ansari Nagar, bagged the trophy for overall best results in Class 12. While congratulating the students, Marwah urged the teachers to work hard for obtaining best results in the coming academic year. He also informed the students that computer education will soon be introduced in the NDMC schools.
Plan to combat diseases underway
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has launched an action plan to control various communicable diseases in Delhi. The plan has taken cognizance of the recommendations made by an expert committee, headed by former director of National Institute for Communicable Diseases and advisor to the World Health Organisation, S. Patnaik. The plan proposes to have a door-to-door health education programme through domiciliary health workers. The plan also envisages a municipal ward where preventive and curative functions will be integrated.
South Asian AIDS workshop
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will provide fresh grant assistance worth Rs 12.5 crore in support of collaborative initiative addressing key developing aspects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in south and south-west Asia. While deciding this, several government, civil society and UN representatives from nine participating countries today gathered in Gurgaon to identify priority areas and concrete activities for sub-regional co-operation under this initiative. Several non-governmental organisations are also participating in this three-day workshop. The workshop will focus on key issues around three interrelated components related to HIV, gender, governance and livelihood. The workshop’s aim is to come up with concrete initiatives to facilitate networking and enhance the region’s capacity to respond in an effective, multi-sectoral and sustainable manner to the epidemic.
Lions Club grant for Chamoli victims
The Lions Clubs international Foundation has released an emergency grant of 10,000 USD to provide immediate assistance to earthquake victims at Chamoli in Gharwal region and adjoining areas. This announcement was made at the inauguration of the Lions India Office here. Tax board appointmentn DIRECTOR General of Income Tax (Adm) O.P Srivastava has been inducted in the Central Board of Direct Taxes. He belongs to the 1964 batch of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). As Chief Commissioner of Income Tax in Delhi he handled the Voluntary Disclosure of Income Scheme (VDIS) two years ago.
Raghubir Singh’s death condoled
The Working News cameramen’s Association has condoled the sudden and tragic death of photojournalist Raghubir Singh.
