In Pune division,a total of Rs 7.9 crore has been written off as bad debts

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has warned of disconnecting power supply to civic bodies of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad and 1,830 Public Water Works of civic bodies in Pune division if they fail to pay the pending arrears amounting to Rs 17.53 crore.

S P Nagtilak,chief engineer,Pune division,MSEDCL,said Abhay Yojana scheme has been announced to recover arrears from Public Water Works,industrial consumers,agricultural consumers and others who have arrears pending in crores.

In Pune division,a total of Rs 7.9 crore has been written off as bad debts. However,a total of Rs 9.62 crore will have be paid in installments,failing which the electricity supply will be disconnected,MSEDCL sources said.

The consumers will have to pay the arrears till March 31 in a maximum 24 equal monthly installments payable with current bills. However,after these concessions,if the arrears are not cleared then the supply will be disconnected. The MSEDCL is writing off the debts up to March this year

According to the statement,the amount to be paid by the Public Water Works of civic bodies across the state is a whopping Rs 1,685 crore. Of this,Rs 935 crore has been waived off and now all the civic bodies have been directed to pay Rs 750 crore.
