Victory sealed,no parade

world cup; Champions opt for rest, family time before IPL begins

When the Indian cricket team returned to Mumbai after their last world title — the inaugural World Twenty20 which was also won under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni in South Africa — thousands of people lined up on the streets to catch a glimpse of their heroes, who were paraded in an open-top bus procession from the airport to Wankhede Stadium.

But that may not be repeated this time,as the newly-crowned world champions have decided to opt out of the customary open-top bus victory parade, wanting to spend some time with their families instead.

During the presentation ceremony last night,Dhoni said “it’s been a memorable 35 days that we’ve spent together”. But the Indians,in fact, spent many more days in preparation for the marquee event, including the long and arduous tour of South Africa, which preceded the World Cup.

So,it isn’t surprising that the players want to go home and spend time with their families now. More so,since the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to kick off in Chennai from Friday.
