Molecular research lab at CMCH
Betty Cowan,Research and Innovation Centre (BCRIC),a new molecular research laboratory has come up at Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). The centre was started by a generous education grant from the Canadian-Vellore Ludhiana Committee (Canada) and Friends of Ludhiana (UK).
Dr Jeyaraj Durai Pandian is the Head of Research and Dr Neeta Devi Kang is the Head of Innovation. Dr Kang has brought in a two-year research grant from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) to work on cancer stem cells and micro RNAs in brain tumours. By studying the cancer stem cells and micro RNAs,the team hopes to find potential biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis. They also hope to find possible molecular targets for therapeutic purposes for the better management of brain tumours.
ICAI holds convocation
The Northern Region of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India organised its convocation on Tuesday. Rank certificates were awarded to the meritorious chartered accountants by chief guest Dr Manjit Singh Kang,Vice-Chancellor,Punjab Agricultural University and Dr Daljit Singh,Principal,Dayanand Medical College and Hospital.
NSS camp held at GCW
The NSS Unit of Government College For Women organised a one-day camp under the leadership of Manju Sahni and Sharanjit Parmar.
The camp was inaugrated by Gurminder Kaur,principal of the college. She said that we needed to work hard to maintain our liberty and dignity. We should understand the importance of dignity of labour. She congratulated students and teachers for organising such an excellent camp on the college campus.
Kler is new ADC of city
S R Kler joined as ADC General in the city on Monday. His last posting was Additional Secretary Excise and Taxation. Earlier,Kuldeep Singh was ADC who has been transferred as Joint Commissioner in Municipal corporation Ludhiana.
Aurobindo Ghoshs birthday celebrated
Sri Aurobindo College of commerce and management celebrated the 138th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo and 64th Independence Day.The college organized a paper reading contest coordinated to mark the occasion. The topics of the contest were related to life and philosophy of Sri Aurobindo,India the next super power,importance of Independence Day,Sri Aurobindos vision of future and dreamers are achievers.
