Drawn to Pablo

The Capital’s art fraternity dropped in at the Instituto Cervantes at 48 Hanuman Road,Connaught Place,to gaze at the 100 works that make Pablo Picasso’s Suite Vollard — and they were predictably bowled over.

The photographer Raghu Rai exclaimed,“The lithographs and drawings are unbelievable and it’s remarkable the way one line transforms into a full-bodied woman. In some of the etchings that depict the passionate relationship between a man and a woman,a wild,animal-like instinct is brought out. It’s all about expression and human energy and I haven’t seen anybody else bring out that energy so well.”

Alka Pande, curator, agreed: “Of course, the drawings are fantastic, but that apart the exhibition is very well laid-out. Picasso was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, but most of us only know about his works as a painter. Here one gets to know a different dynamics.”
