The Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) is mulling the idea of setting up nuclear power plants in West Bengal,Bihar,Jharkhand and Orissa,said AEC chairman Srikumar Banerjee,while delivering a speech on Using science and technology as instruments for nation-building,here on Friday.
Recently,these four states have expressed their desire to have nuclear reactors. We need more atomic energy to be energy sufficient, said Banerjee,adding that at present,there are 18 nuclear reactors of 220 MW capacity each,of which none are located in any eastern state,he added.
Pointing out that India is an energy-starved country,Banerjee said the country would be able to bridge the gap of deficient energy by 2032.
