A major reshuffle that took place in the Chandigarh Police, wherein 543 police personnel were transferred among various departments, has turned out to be a major hassle for many. Unhappy with the reshuffle, many personnel on Thursday turned up at the office of Inspector General with a request of returning them to their original posting.
Inspector General RP Upadhyaya on Thursday organised Orderly Room at his office wherein police personnel were called to come up with their grievances. Around 200 personnel approached Upadhyaya, out of which many carried grievances related to their transfer of duty.
A head constable who has been shifted to Police Control Room (PCR) following the reshuffle said,I worked only for seven months with the CID branch. It was a small period for a substantive learning experience. I wish to return to my original posting.
A lady constable working in the traffic department too,had a similar problem. I have already been transferred twice in the past. I asked the IG to retain me in the department for at least three years.
Another constable, who is posted at Sector 3 police station and is suffering from a fractured leg approached the top brass of the Chandigarh police saying,I want to be transfered to a post which would offer more sedentary work.
Though many came out satisfied of Upadhyayas office, some were left disheartened. Upadhyaya said,I have always fulfilled the request of the personnel regarding their transfers. However,in some cases,it was not feasible to change their postings.
The Chandigarh Police recently transferred as many as 543 police personnel including eight inspectors,41 sub-inspectors,24 assistant sub-inspectors,154 head constables and 316 constables among its various departments.
