PCA felicitates its cricketers

Applauding the efforts of Punjab cricketers,Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) honoured budding state players during 61st Annual General Meeting held on Sunday at the PCA stadium in Mohali under the chairmanship of association president Inderjit Singh Bindra.

Among the winners,Punjab southpaw Uday Kaul and medium-pacer Love Ablish were jointly felicitated with ‘Senior Cricketer’ of the year award and Rs 50,000 each. It maybe recalled that Uday scored the highest number of runs (852 runs in 14 innings with an average of 44.76 with one century and fivefifties) in Ranji Trophy while Love Ablish took 36 wickets in eight Ranji matches. He also had three five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket haul.

The ‘Junior Cricketer’ of the year award was split between Baltej Singh and Rajwinder Singh Golu and both were given a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each. The ‘Women Cricketer’ of the year award went to Jalandhar’s Reva Arora who got Rs 25,000. There were other notable performances from Mandeep Singh and Sandeep Sharma who represented India in ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand,and Harmanpreet Kaur who represented India in ICC World Cup T-20 and also represented the national team against England in India.

Meanwhile,’Best District’ award of Rs 2.50 lakh was given to Mohinder Singh,secretary,Chandigarh Cricket Association. ‘Second Best District’ award of Rs.1.25 lakh was received by R.P. Pandove,secretary,Patiala Cricket Association.The PCA members appreciated Punjab’s performance in Junior National Championships in which their Under-19 team won both the One Dayers (Vinoo Mankad ) 4-days tournaments (Cooch Behar Trophy). The members of the winning teams were given prize money cheques at the end of the AGM. PCA added 100% prize money to the amount for each player and coach received from the BCCI. Also coach Munish Bali was specially lauded by all members.The association also honoured four of its senior members- S.S. Jolly,S. Balwant Singh from Jalandhar District and M.L. Agnihotri and G.S. Banga from Patiala District. Apart from this,the members approved the Annual Report of the Association which highlighted the various salient achievements of the association for the period 2009-2010.The house also approved the audited balance sheet of the association as on 31.3.2010 presented by Viswajeet Khanna,treasurer of the association.

PCA to come up with new stadium in Mullanpur

In order to end all parking woes around the PCA stadium in Mohali during international matches,the association is going to build another spacious stadium with adequate parking space and other amenities as per the norms laid by the ICC spread in the area of 41.95 acre land in and around Mullanpur,according to MP Pandove,PCA secretary. The members were informed that the present stadium was being found inadequate because of the parking constraints and being surrounded by residential areas according to Sushil Kapoor,spokesperson PCA. The PCA Stadium at Mohali has hosted many international and domestic matches besides the IPL during the past two decades of its existence. Recently,the PCA has also put two proposals before the Punjab government,under which the Association is ready to give up the existing stadium if the government was ready to pay for it,which would help the PCA plough the money to build the Mullanpur facility.
