Women’s domicile rights Bill dropped

Jammu: A controversial Bill that sought to debar women in Jammu and Kashmir from their civil rights if they married a non-domicile was on Monday dropped from the Legislative Council after the government admitted a “technical flaw” in introducing the proposed law. Soon after the Question Hour,pandemonium broke out over the issue after which Deputy Chairman S Amrinder Singh announced that the Permanent Resident (Disqualification) Certificate (PRC) Bill was being dropped. Ravinder Kumar Sharma (Congress) said such a Bill could only be introduced in the Assembly and if a constitutional error has been committed by introducing the Bill,it should be rectified.

MLA booked for threatening SDM

Shimla: The police on Monday booked the Congress MLA from Choupal in Shimla district,Subhash Manglet,under non-bailable sections of the law for allegedly threatening a Sub Divisional Magistrate. Shimla SP R M Sharma said: “An FIR has been registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by the SDM,Choupal,Ramesh Thakur.” Manglet has denied the charges and said he has no information of any such complaint against him.

Uttar Pradesh hooch toll touches 11

Bhadoi: One Narendra Singh died on Monday taking the number of those who died after consuming spurious liquor in Bhadoi and Varanasi districts to 11,Varanasi DM Ravindra said. Ten people,including three women,died and 13 were hospitalised on Sunday after they consumed spurious liquor. The state government has suspended three policemen,including an SHO,and five excise officials.

Negligence case against Sherwood

Dehradun: A case of negligence and culpable homicide has been registered against the management of Sherwood College boarding school in Nainital,in connection with the Ramnagar accident last week in which two school students — Anmol Bhatt and Ibrahim Ansari — were killed and several injured,Jagdish Dhakariyal,the investigating officer said on Monday.

Cop killed,8 injured in group clash

Ludhiana: A policeman on leave was killed and eight were injured in a cross-fire between rival groups of a political party during an election campaign for the cooperative society at Chowki Maan village in Ludhiana on Sunday,SSP H S Chahal said. The deceased has been identified as head constable Harvinder Singh Gora.

Hooda announces three new awards
