The Board of Steel Authority of India Ltd SAIL in a meeting held at Delhi accorded approval for the installation of Steel
Processing Unit SPU at Nahan at a cost of Rs 100 crore which would provide employment to more than 2,000 people.
In a statement issued today, with the original copy of approval of SPU, the state Lok Janshakati Party LJP Chairman and former MLA Sada Nand Chauhan said the land has been purchased by SAIL at Shambhuwala, about 10 kilometers from here, on Nahan-Paonta road.
He said that if state government extended its support, the foundation stone could be laid by Union Steel Minister and National LJP Chairman Ram Vilas Paswan in the first week of November.
The establishment of SPU at Nahan would provide employment opportunities to the locals, similar to what private industries at Kala-Amb and Paonta sahib did for youths of adjoining states. The locals said though the state government imposed many conditions for providing 70 per cent jobs to Himachalis but they did not implement them strictly.
