Higuain,Villa can win honour
JOHANNESBURG: Portugal great Eusebio says Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain or David Villa of Spain will win the Golden Boot award for the World Cups top scorer. Eusebio,who was the top scorer with nine goals at the 1966 tournament,says its going to be a very close shave between these two. Villa,Higuain and Robert Vittek of Slovakia share the scoring lead with four goals.
Aguirre resigns
MEXICO CITY: Javier Aguirre quit as Mexico coach,three days after the national team was knocked out of the World Cup in a 3-1 loss to Argentina in the round of 16. Im the person responsible, said Aguirre,adding that hed made a commitment to reach the quarterfinals. The plan was to 8230; be among the best eight in the world. This was the plan. If we didnt do it,its clear staying on the job is not an option. Aguirre was Mexicos fifth coach since Argentine Ricardo La Volpe was released after the 2006 World Cup.
FIFA yet to act on Nigeria
JOHANNESBURG: FIFA is studying a report before possibly taking action against Nigeria for government interference after Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan ordered the team to sit out international competition for two years as punishment for its poor showing. FIFA spokesman Nicolas Maingot said Thursday that FIFA is looking at the case but is not yet ready to act.
Mueller seeks revenge
Erasima: Diego Maradona thought Thomas Mueller was a ballboy when they first met,a snub which has fired-up the German star to plot Argentinas downfall. Mueller was unknown when he made his debut in a 1-0 defeat to Argentina and attended the post-match press conference alongside the Argentina coach. Maradona stormed off and refused to return until the German left the stage to him alone. Now I have won two titles and played in the Champions League with Bayern,so a few things have changed, said Mueller.
