New Delhi, Oct 28: It’s been quite sometime since Jeev Milkha Singh won a title. “Actually, I am not worried, because I think I it (a title) will come. But in Europe this year, I was quite close to it on the last day on more than one occasion, but it just fell apart. I think I was just too eager to win,” he said.

Back after a fairly successful season on the European PGA, where he has managed to retain his card for 1999, he also has a good third place finish last week at the Fedex PGA event at Singapore. But the SIEL Honda PGA which gets underway at the Army Golf Course tomorrow will be his first tournament in India in eight months.

Happy with his play, he said, “I play three good rounds, but I would like to change that and have four good rounds instead.”

Maybe the next two weeks that he will be in India for the SIEL PGA and then the Hero Honda Masters could well see him do just that an end the title drought that is beginning to get worrisome for someone so talented.

Also back home for his annualgolfing pilgrimage is Daniel Chopra, Jeev’s room-mate in Europe on the EPGA. Now into his third year on the EPGA, it was not a particularly good year for Daniel, who finished 95th on the Order of Merit, as compared to his 36th and 54th places last two years. But he did have a second place finish in one tournament on the Australian PGA and a seventh place in the German Open on the EPGA. The first winner of the SIEL PGA — this tournament is now in its fifth year — Daniel still does not have one prize which all subsequent winners got — the Honda car. “If I win it this year, I can leave it for my parents here,” he quipped.

Also in the fray in this major event on the Wills Tour is Vivek Bhandari, who was joint third with Jeev in the Fedex Open last week. Bhandari is also the defending champion.

Gaurav Ghei, eighth last week in Singapore, and Jyoti Randhawa, who still remembers losing the SIEL title on the seventh hole play-off in 1996, Ali Sher and Shiv Prakash, both double winners on the Wills Tour thisyear are the other main challengers for the Rs 4.66 lakh prizes, besides the gleaming Honda Car that went up on show at the course late this evening.
