‘Will change paramilitary uniform’

Shinde was inaugurating a new campus of the National Disaster Response Force.

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, himself a former Sub-Inspector,does not like the present uniform of paramilitary forces and said he intends to change it to make it more attractive to the youth. Shinde was inaugurating a new campus of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).

The minister’s comment comes a day after he said policemen should not look like old men. “Youngsters have an attraction to the uniform. I am planning to change the uniform so that more youngsters will join paramilitary forces,” he said.

Shinde batted for paramilitary forces that report to his ministry saying Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel are posted 20-30 km ahead of the army on the Line of Actual Control and said that the present arrangement of ITBP is ‘working well’ at the LAC.

By saying so,Shinde has in fact indirectly refused the Ministry of Defence demand that ITBP be placed under the operational control of the Army.

‘Not returning to Maharashtra’

Sushilkumar Shinde said that talks that he would be brought back to Maharashtra are baseless rumours. “I am a member of the Congress core committee. I should have known if I will be transferred. These are rumours,” he said.
