Fire at Khadki scrap centre

A Scrap centre near the railway bridge close to Rajiv Gandhi slums in Khadki caught fire early on Saturday morning. However,no injuries were reported.

A Scrap centre near the railway bridge close to Rajiv Gandhi slums in Khadki caught fire early on Saturday morning. However,no injuries were reported.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire after about three-and-a-half hours.

The police said the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. According to the fire brigade,two workers at the Nazir scrap centre noticed the fire and smoke around 2 am. They informed the fire brigade following which a large team of fire brigade from Pune,Pimpri and Khadki rushed to the spot. As many as 18 fire tenders and several water tankers were pressed into action.

The fire brigade team brought the situation under control by 5.30 am,however,scrap items,including papers and iron material which were in the centre,about 5,000 square feet,were damaged

The Khadki police team also visited the spot.
