With IPL,college exams and weekend all converging on Saturday,it was unusual to see a crowd, comprising mostly youngsters, shouting slogans against the government policy to produce alcohol from foodgrains.

The youngsters took to the streets to voice their concern about the issue.

“This policy is going to affect us and the future generations. In a situation where India has to import foodgrains to ensure food security, how can this policy which is going to consume 10 per cent of Maharashtra’s foodgrains annually,be justified?” said IIT post-graduate Hemant Shinde, one of the participants.

Students from colleges and groups like Nirman,Bhrashtachar Virodhi Janandolan Samiti,Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti,Lokayat and Gnyanprabodhini Yuva Vibhag organised a rally from Pune Station to the Collectorate.
