Talking about monsoon preparedness of BMC,Kunte said water-logging and flooding in the city cannot be avoided. Owing to the demography of the city,it is vulnerable to water-logging and flooding, especially during high tide of over 4.5 metres and excessive rain, said Kunte.
According to the disaster cell, there are four-five days in monsoon when a combination of high tide of 4.5 metres and above and excessive rainfall, can result in a critical situation. There can be water-logging and flooding during those days, said Kunte.
While there are concerns of water-logging in many areas,Kunte said the new operational pumping stations might help in resolving the issue to some extent. The civic administration has joined hands with various agencies to complete the nullah cleaning work and it will help ease water-logging,he said.
The civic administration will gather detailed forecast of not only 24 hours but also the rain data three-four hours in advance,to warn citizens,Kunte added.
We will start Facebook and Twitter pages to reach out to citizens in real time and give them information on any water-logging or heavy rainfall. The BMC will also send out warning messages through FM radio, said Kunte.
