z ASI jumps off terrace of five-storey building in Mahim,no suicide note found A 53-year-old assistant sub inspector attached to the Bandra police station committed suicide by jumping off the terrace of his residential building in Mahim police colony on Tuesday morning. Though the police have not recovered any suicide note, the family of Vijay Murudkar alleged he was facing harassment from a senior police officer at the Bandra police station, identified only as an assistant police inspector. The family said Murudkar often mentioned this and claimed this was what drove him to take the extreme step. Murudkar is survived by wife Yashoda, two sons,Rajesh and Rakesh; and a daughter,Darshana. An officer from the Mahim police station said,Around 8 am,Murudkar left his first floor residence, reached the terrace of the five-storey building and jumped off. Neighbours heard a loud thud and came out to find Murudkar lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The deceaseds son Rajesh,a constable attached to the Kherwadi police station, said: In the morning when I asked my mother where my father had gone, she said he was on the terrace. After some time we heard a thud; we went out and saw him on the ground. Rajesh said his father was upset ever since he was transferred to the Bandra police station around 18 months ago. He had mentioned several times that he was being harassed by an assistant police inspector from the Bandra police station. He told us that the officer used to give him stressful work and would often belittle and humiliate him in the presence of his colleagues, he said. Rajesh said the family asked Murudkar to take voluntary retirement if he was not happy with his work. He had already given a letter intending to resign a couple of months ago, which was awaiting approval, he said. Murudkars family said he had stopped talking to anyone at home over the past fortnight. He would come home upset and would not speak to anyone, his son said. We are yet to take detailed statements of the family members. Once that is done,we will be able to get a clearer picture about the harassment he was facing from his superior,if any. We will take further action when the statements are taken, said a police officer.
