The enrollment drive of the Unique Identification Directory(UID) has drawn a good response from the residents of Mohali with over 50,000 residents of the city already getting themselves registered.
The enrollment drive had started in the second-half of April. In Mohali city,the enrollments are taking place in Sector 61,70,and Phase 2,10 and 11. Majority of the centres are located in the buildings which are frequented by the public on a regular basis.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner,Varun Roojam said,We are quite happy with the response people are showing towards the enrollment drive. The district has 46 machines deployed in various places to facilitate the drive. Seeing the response,we plan to increase the number of machines from 46 to 75 in order to enable more areas and more people to register themselves every day.
Rajiv,a supervisor of the team undertaking the enrollment in Sector 61 community centre said,We are receiving close to 200 applications every day. Since its inception in April we have enrolled over 8,000 residents. We will continue to enroll people till the time we receive applications.
These numbers would have been greater if the enrollment was made compulsory. As of now the enrollment is voluntary. The enrollment process involves recording an applicants demographics along with a photograph,iris scan and finger-prints taken at the centre.
