The call from the mountains is one that photographer Sanjay Kaushal can never resist. And more than any other range, its the Himalayas that fascinate him. For the last 20 years,he has been taking the road less travelled,to the interiors of Leh-Ladakh,traversing the length and breadth of the place. I first went there in 92 on a scooter, and have not stopped ever since, smiles Kaushal, who works with an insurance firm but is essentially a photographer at heart.
The exhibition titled Hues of Ladakh is Kaushals photo essay on his journey to Ladakh over the last couple of years. It has over 60 frames dotting the walls of Punjab Kala Bhawan, taking you on a mystical and stunning journey. Striving to see Ladakh in a new light and frame,Kaushal has travelled to the eastern part of Ladakh, capturing its hues and colours in September and March. How the seasons change the topography, landscape, lakes, spirit and feel of the place is what the avid photographer has been able to capture in the photographs with precision. In spite of tourism gaining ground here, its still a place that has something new for the senses every time you visit. The contrasts that nature has bestowed here are unmatchable. The exhibition is an effort to showcase the uniqueness of Leh-Ladakh, says Kaushal, who has ventured into the lesser-visited Tishul,Hanle plains and Spituk to capture the sand dunes, frozen lakes and fall colours of the Matha village and the mountains in greys, greens, browns and golds.
Hues of Ladakh is on at Punjab Kala Bhawan,Sector 16,Chandigarh,till October 9.
