In an exciting encounter,MRS Academy,Amritsar prevailed over Chandigarh Football and Hockey Academy (CFHA) in a tie-breaker after the match ended in a goal-less draw during the 8th S N Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior (Under-14) Hockey Tournament being held at Sector 42 Sports Complex on Monday.
CFHA,who thrashed MSS Academy,Rohtak,yesterday,could not repeat the same performance and they squandered too many chances in a match that saw players from both the teams goofing up near the goal post. MRS Academy defenders did well to satisfy the CFHA forwards with some clean clearing.
With the match locked 0-0 at the regulation time,the match was then decided by penalty shoot-out. Only two of CFHA players were able to convert the penalties,while four of MRS players were successful in doing so. In the end,MRS Academy were awarded for their perseverance with a 4-2 win over CFHA.
In another match,Amit and Sanjay scored a brace each to help CRZ School,Sonepat,outclass Jarkhar Hockey Academy,Ludhiana,4-0 to move ahead in the tournament. Amit opened the account for CRZ in the third minute of the match. He scored the goal through a penalty corner. He was again on target as he found the net in the fifth minute of the match to put the team ahead by 2-0. A minute later,Sanjay made a superb move and sent the Jarkhar Academy custodian the wrong way to swell his team’s goal tally.
CRZ team totally looked out of touch and failed to threaten the opposition team’s defence. Meanwhile,after the breather,Sanjay scored his second goal of the match in the 56th minute to seal the fate for CRZ School.
In the third match of the day,Surjit Hockey Academy continued their goal scoring spree with a 5-0 demolition of GRM School,Delhi in a one-sided encounter. Lovepreet struck a superb brace to steer his team to a facile win. Rajat opened the account for Surjit Academy in the fifth minute of the match through a field goal. Lovepreet then came up with two goals in a span of ten minutes to put his team on top. After the break,Surjit Academy scored two more goals through Jatinder and Inderpal in the 43rd and 46th minute,respectively,to score an emphatic win.
