An air of serenity surrounds Bani Doabia as she takes one around the exhibition of her paintings, titled “The Journey Inwards: A Soul Searching Traverse”. For the last 10 years,Chandigarh-based Doabia has been creating works that express her own spiritual journey and experiences. “The Journey Inwards” is inspired by the path that humans take to achieve Buddha’s zen-like state.

Being a self-taught artist, the philosophy of Buddhism has given a strong impetus to Doabia’s passion. “For the last 10 months,I have been focusing on this series, and the works are a result of many internal discoveries,’’ says Doabia, adding that art is a spiritual medium that connects with one’s inner being. She is exhibiting at Virgin Courtyard in Sector 7,a new space for artists and art lovers.

Doabia works with acrylics in earthy tones and oranges, and powerful strokes convey the tranquility, energy and power of Buddha. The Virgin Courtyard’s ambience adds greatly to the impact of the works on display.

Among the artwork is a series that depicts the journey of a spiritual mind by highlighting the three basic elements of the universe — Earth,Water and Fire. Doabia then moves to the subject of Enlightenment, and depicts how the journey of life seems like a complex maze, but the True Buddha emerges from behind as a symbol of courage and strength. Another work, titled Shakyamuni, depicts the serenity of a person who is on the path of tranquility.

The show is being held at Virgin Courtyard in Sector 7 till today
